CEO Kwon targets medical Web3

The Block Media has been conducting interviews with promising companies, startups, and project representatives as a New Year’s plan for 2023.

The interviews are to meet people who will stand out in the digital asset and blockchain technology markets and listen to their vision.

The third interview is with Lemon Chain CEO Kwon Ki-wook. Lemonchain is making a real case for the medical blockchain market.

He said Lemon Chain would implement Medical Web3. He added Lemon Healthcare collaborates with 120 general tertiary hospitals and said he would implement Web 3 in the medical field.

Lemon Chain won third place with AM Management at the Block Festa 2022 Web3 Startup Pitching Contest. Judges evaluated Lemon Chain as making a real case in the medical blockchain business in the competition. The interview took place last month at the Gasan office of Lemon Healthcare.

Q. Please introduce Lemon Chain and Lemon Healthcare.

Lemon Chain is a medical web3 blockchain. Lemon Chain runs on the Lemon Healthcare platform. Healthcare data generated when an individual visits a hospital can be recognized as individual ownership, not hospital ownership.

Lemon Healthcare connects hospital customer data by collaborating with 120 general tertiary hospitals. Hospitals, insurance companies, pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies, and healthcare companies use the data.

The digital healthcare system was connected to a general tertiary hospital’s electronic medical record (EMR) system to manage data. Accessing EMR data was impossible in the past, but the API was made public through Lemon Healthcare’s Quick API Builder (QAB). In recognition of this value, Lemon Healthcare received a Series C investment, and the valuation reached 110 billion won.

Q. Why do you only handle data from advanced hospitals?

We can explain the value of healthcare data as a pyramid. Local hospitals collect healthcare data at the bottom of the pyramid; cold is typically collected data. The value of the data is low when compared only with the value of the information big hospitals possess. General tertiary hospitals collect data dealing with diseases such as cancer, and the data value is much higher.

Q. Please introduce the current Lemon Chain’s project.

We will upgrade the ‘ChungGu-ui-Shin : Almighty Reimbursement’ app to 2.0. It is possible to claim the loss insurance premium automatically. In other words, data can be delivered directly and automatically to the insurance company without going to the hospital counter.

If the hospital agrees, Lemon Healthcare will act on behalf of insurance claims, and the data the hospital collects can be automatically billed directly to the insurance company. In addition, hospital billing among Kakao Pay’s functions includes Lemon Healthcare.

We use Klaytn as the mainnet. Points are provided as rewards to users whi use the platform.

Q. How is consent for patient personal information made?

We clearly state the provision of personal information in the application terms and conditions. Lemon Healthcare provides and develops each hospital application and entrusts the application service operation and development to Lemon Healthcare.

Personal medical information is all encrypted through technical protocols. In addition, when a patient requests their medical healthcare data, the hospital must provide all data in electronic or written form under the Personal Information Protection Act.

Q. Are there any difficulties in uploading medical data to the blockchain?

Uploading all medical data to the blockchain has realistic technical limitations, such as speed limits, and we cannot put all medical data on-chain. Therefore, we envision a hybrid form that uploads only light hash values on-chain and heavy medical data off-chain.

Initially, we have a node for each hospital so that we can move and verify data. However, due to technical difficulties, we divided the previously planned Healthcare Blockchain Network (HBN) technology roadmap into four stages.

[블록미디어 정아인 기자] 블록미디어는 2023년 신년 기획으로 유망 기업, 스타트업, 프로젝트 대표들을 만나보는 시리즈 인터뷰를 시작합니다. 디지털 자산시장과 블록체인 기술 시장에서 두각을 나타낼 유망주를 만나 보고, 이들의 비전을 들어보는 기획입니다.

세 번째 순서는 레몬체인 권기욱 대표입니다. 레몬체인은 ‘의료 블록체인’ 시장의 실제 사례를 만들고 있습니다.

레몬체인의 권기욱 대표는 “상급종합병원 120개와 협업 중인 레몬 헬스케어를 바탕으로 의료 분야에서 웹3를 구현할 것”라고 포부를 밝혔다.

레몬체인은 블록페스타 2022 ‘웹3 스타트업 피칭 대회’에서 AM 매니지먼트와 공동 3등을 수상했다. 레몬체인은 피칭 대회에서 ‘의료 블록체인 사업에서 실제 사례를 만들어간다’는 평가를 받았다. 인터뷰는 지난달 레몬헬스케어 사무실에서 이루어졌다.

Q. ‘레몬체인’과 ‘레몬 헬스케어’ 소개 부탁한다

래몬체인은 ‘의료 웹3 블록체인’이다. 레몬 헬스케어 플랫폼 위에서 ‘레몬체인’이 구동된다. 개인이 병원 방문 시 생기는 헬스케어 데이터를 병원 소유가 아닌 개인 소유로 인정받을 수 있도록 하고 있다.

레몬 헬스케어는 상급종합병원 120개와 협업해 병원 고객 데이터를 연결한다. 해당 데이터들은 병원뿐만 아니라 보험사, 약국, 제약사, 헬스케어 회사 서비스로도 활용될 수 있다.

상급종합병원의 EMR(전자 의료 기록) 시스템에 디지털 헬스케어 시스템을 연결해 데이터를 관리할 수 있도록 했다. 과거에는 EMR 데이터에 접근할 수 없었으나 레몬헬스케어의 QAB(퀵 API 빌더)를 통해 API를 공개하게 됐다. 이 가치를 인정받아 레몬헬스케어는 시리즈C 투자까지 받았다. 벨류에이션이 1100억 원에 달했다.

Q. 상급 병원의 데이터만 취급하는 이유는?

헬스 케어 데이터의 가치는 피라미드 형태로 설명할 수 있다. 피라미드 최하단에 위치한 헬스 케어 데이터는 동네 병원 데이터(내과, 이비인후과 등)가 수집한 데이터다. ‘감기’가 대표적인 수집 데이터다. 데이터 가치로만 놓고 따졌을 때 해당 데이터의 가치는 낮다. 상급종합병원의 경우, ‘암’ 등의 병을 다룬 데이터가 누적되어 데이터 가치가 훨씬 높다.

Q. 현재 레몬체인이 진행 중인 프로젝트에 대해 소개해 달라.

‘청구의 신’ 어플이 2.0으로 업그레이드된다. 실손보험료 자동 청구가 가능하다. 다시 말해, 병원 창구에 가지 않고 보험사에 데이터를 바로 전달할 수 있도록 자동화했다. 병원에서 레몬헬스케어가 보험비 청구를 대리할 수 있도록 동의하면, 병원에서 발생한 데이터를 보험사로 바로 자동 청구할 수 있도록 했다. 또한 카카오페이 기능 중 병원비 청구에 ‘레몬헬스케어’가 포함된다.

현재 메인넷으로 클레이튼을 사용 중이다. 레몬 헬스케어 플랫폼을 사용한 유저에게 포인트를 보상으로 제공한다. 포인트는 LEMC(레몬체인 코인)과 교환이 가능하다.

Q. 환자 개인 정보에 대한 동의는 어떻게 이루어지나?

어플 약관에 개인정보 제공 동의에 대한 부분이 명확하게 명시되어 있다. 각 병원용 어플은 레몬헬스케어가 제공하고 개발하는 것으로 스킨만 변경한 것이다. 레몬헬스케어에게 어플 서비스 운영과 개발을 위탁한 것이다. 해당 사항도 약관에 명시되어 있다.

개인 의료 정보들은 기술적인 프로토콜을 거쳐 모두 암호화된다. 또한 환자가 자신의 의료 헬스케어 데이터를 달라고 요구할 경우, 병원은 개인정보보호법에 따라 전자나 문서 형태로 모든 자료를 제공해야 한다.

Q. 의료 데이터를 블록체인에 올리는 데 어려움은 없나?

모든 의료 데이터를 블록체인에 올리는 것은 속도 제한 등 현실적인 기술적 제약이 발생한다. 모든 의료 데이터를 온체인에 올릴 수 없는 것이다. 따라서 가벼운 해시값만 온체인에 올리고 무거운 의료 데이터는 오프체인에 올리는 하이브리드 형태로 구상 중이다.

첫 기획 의도는 병원마다 노드를 두고 데이터 간 이동과 검증을 할 수 있도록 하려고 했다. 하지만 위와 같은 기술적 어려움으로, 기존 기획했던 HBN(헬스케어 블록체인 네트워크) 기술 로드맵을 총 4단계로 나눴다.

Q. 레몬헬스케어의 향후 프로젝트 전망은?

현재 상급종합병원을 예약하기 위해서는 병원마다 별도로 연락을 취해야 한다. 레몬헬스케어는 향후 상급종합병원 120개의 예약이 한 번에 가능하게 할 계획이다.

Q. 블록페스타 2022 참가 후기는?

블록페스타에서 대중에게 기술 로드맵을 최초 공개했다. 11월에 완성한 HBN(헬스케어 블록체인 네트워크) 기술 로드맵을 검증받을 수 있었다. 피칭 대회 심사위원들의 피드백으로 미래 전략을 수정할 수 있었다.
